When it comes to comfort food, depending on the childhood you've had, a long list of possibilities can leap in to a persons mind. There are times "The Spot" nails it's motto with such execution that even if you had a crap childhood this would make you alter the memories to all seem slightly better. However there then are times the food here isn't much better than a $2.99 Steak and Egg combo that is served on the very outskirts of a casino in Primm, Nevada.

So positives first. And it's a massive positive. When it comes to the Mac and Cheese, they nailed it. I got the carbonara and I have to say that they have it down to almost a perfect cheese to noodle to goodness ratio that it's unfair that I've been alive this long and so rarely had a chance to have something like this clog my arteries. There are places in the East Village that only sell Mac and Cheese and The Spot easily made a better dishes. All the ingredients in it were good and well portioned. My greatest and only complaint is the Mac and cheese is served in dishes that's room temperature, so hurray you don't burn your hand but the downside is that the cheese begins to cool and cogulate about 12.8 seconds after it leaves the kitchen. Once set on the table in its cute little cast iron skillet, it cools within minutes and you are left with yuck that use to be so delicious. If they put the skillet on a wood plant and served it the way fajita's come out, thus keeping the cheese and such bubbling and hot. I'd make this a monthly place. (I live 30 miles away)

So I honestly cannot stress enough get the mac n cheese and eat it immediately. If they stopped doing everything else and focused solely on their Mac and cheese and the perfection of it, I would say the world would be better off for their endeavor.

Now, that aside. I had the steak and eggs as it's normally one of my favorite breakfast items. Here though, not my favorite. And that's a dish that it you can't get I have little faith in the rest. (Mac n' Cheese aside)

It's simple really. The cut of meat is thin and was over cooked, it's not a deal breaker as medium rare to medium isn't the end of the world. But the meat itself is bland. It's not poor quality, it simply didn't strike me as seasoned or marinated or loved or anything. If they took these cuts and places them in their own marinade and then served it. presto. Given the fact that it was thinly sliced this also cooled fast. The bacon wasn't the freshest but it was still good. But the eggs. They cooked those little fellas over medium and perfect. They made me perfect over medium eggs and seasoned them with salt and pepper as well as cooked them in oil that just came exactly as you'd hoped for if you walked to a place like this in the rain after having the worst day of your life. So, huge plus there. Wonderful eggs. Toast was toast. And potatoes were potatoes. Portions were good. $14 bucks I think and that can fill a normal person up. But other places (franchises) will sell you essentially the same dish, with worse eggs for about $7.99 so for the extra $6 or whatever dollars, and the spot having room to try new things, they should come up with a way to make the steak better, as the eggs are everything you want of them.

And despite the fact that I wish the steak had been better but what can you do. Throw some a1 on it and salt and pepper and remedy the whole situation. Just ask for it cooked under one you normally go with and it's easily a decent steak.

Now the place in and of itself was cute. It's almost got a diner vibe which given the food served is great. Very open, large windows. The decor is cute. I loved the flag on the wall, everyone walks in and takes a picture of it, I loved the logo. It's all cute. Server was nice. Came. Left. Came. Left. I'm of course not a huge fan of people hovering me, so I'd say Bea(?) was great.

Overall. I'd say it's a 3-4 star place that should focus on its Mac and cheese dishes.
